Accommodations for SOAR & Explore

What are SOAR and Explore?

  • Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration (SOAR) is required for all new students. The SOAR program assists accepted students with transitioning to UNC Charlotte, allowing students to meet with academic advisors and register for classes. Visit the SOAR website to learn more.
    • SOAR offers two types of student programs: First-Year SOAR and Transfer SOARPlease note that First-Year SOAR is a busy two-day event, which includes an overnight stay in University residence halls.
  • Explore Open Houses allow prospective students the opportunity to meet faculty, staff and students, discuss educational goals, and get a real taste of campus life at UNC Charlotte.

Disability Accommodations

Disability Services and the SOAR and Explore programs work together to ensure accessibility for attendees. Reasonable and appropriate accommodations can be provided to eligible SOAR participants with disabilities. If you need accommodations in order to participate in any part of the programs, contact Disability Services and SOAR or Explore Staff at least two weeks prior to your event date. DS staff are also available to meet with prospective students to discuss the registration process, accommodations, and campus accessibility. Be sure to include in you SOAR or Explore registration that you will need accommodations, and list what those accommodations are.

Sign Language Interpreters and Alternate Text

Students needing sign language interpreters or text in alternate format (e.g., Braille) must contact Disability Services and submit documentation at least two weeks prior to their SOAR or Explore date.  Every effort is made to address accommodations requested late; however, we cannot guarantee accommodations for late requests.

Accommodations for Parents and Families

Parents and other non-student attendees needing disability accommodations for SOAR and Explore events should contact the Office of Disability Services.

Visit Disability Services at Event Resource Fairs

During SOAR and Explore, prospective students and their families have the opportunity to attend the campus Resource Fair, which showcases the wide variety of academic and student resources at UNC Charlotte. Disability Services representatives will be present at the Resource Fairs to answer questions. We invite you to stop by our table and visit with us!
